Dalgona Matcha Recipe by SoleCup.

Dalgona coffees have been making their way onto all of our screens! This Korean coffee sensation is taking the internet by storm. If you haven’t given this frothy coffee a go yet, you should, and it’s definitely instagram worthy! We’ve made a Dalgona with a twist and added matcha instead of instant coffee.

If you’re new to Dalgona coffee, it’s basically an upside-down coffee! I can already hear the shock in your voice, “an upside-down coffee?!”. You’ve got your frothy coffee on top of hot or cold milk, and it’s delicious.

Dalgona Matcha

All you need are a few simple ingredients and an electric whisk. If you don’t have one, you can still make your dalgona with a hand whisk! It will take some persistence but honestly, it’s worth the whisking. It uses just three ingredients, instant coffee, sugar and hot water. 

The matcha variation needs either egg or aquafaba for a vegan version. 


1 Tablespoon of granulated sugar 

1 egg white (or 2 tablespoons of aquafaba) 

1 teaspoon of matcha powder

Half a glass of milk or dairy free alternative 

Whisk your egg white using an electric whisk for a few minutes until fluffy. Add your sugar to the egg white and whisk until this is fluffy and can hold peaks. Sift your matcha powder over the mixture, whisking until completely combined. Your dalgona matcha should be soft and fluffy and able to hold peaks! 

Fill your glass with hot or cold milk, (we like to use almond milk with ice cubes), slowly pour your freshly whipped matcha onto! Now sit back, relax and enjoy your masterpiece. Be sure to get some good snaps before it’s all gone though.
