Reusable Coffee Cups and Travel Mugs Will Save You Money

Did you know coffee shops give you a discount if you bring your own reusable cup?

If you own a reusable coffee cup or are about to make the switch, you are on the front line for the battle against single-use disposables.

Owning a reusable travel mug is a quick way to eliminate a lot of disposable waste that isn’t usually recycled!

As well as being more sustainable, keep cups will save you money at the till!

That’s right, most coffee shops now give you a discount for using a reusable coffee or reusable tea cup. Check out these SoleCup products where you can get a cup for both coffee and loose tea.

Single-Use Cups

Most single-use cups cannot be recycled, this is because they have a polyethylene layer that is very hard to separate from the paper.  Consequently, there’s only a few specialist centres in the UK that do it. As a result, approximately 2.5 billion are thrown away each year in the UK and they take about 50 years to break down!

The UK government has threatened to ban the use of single-use cups entirely but haven’t done so yet.  They’ve also discussed a ‘latte levy’ suggesting that customers may have to pay more if they use a disposable cup.

Savings

In response to this, coffee shops offer discounts of up to 50p per drink if you have a reusable cup. That means if you buy one coffee each working day you could save £130 per year.  That is a real saving! If you buy a stylish travel mug like this one it will have paid for itself in 6 weeks.

This goes for tea too, you can now get barista friendly reusable tea cups with infusers.  So if you usually go for the loose tea option, taking one of these cups with you will earn you a discount as well.

Yes! I must admit that I’ve only started using reusable cups recently, but I love it now! It helps the environment and as you mentioned, in many instances you receive a discount for doing so! I had no idea that Whole Foods does it, too, though! Thank you for sharing these!
